Mitigate

What is Mitigation?

Mitigation is defined as a sustained action to reduce or eliminate risk to people and property from hazards and their effects. There are many tools Emergency Managers have to mitigate risk for their communities. Some examples are: land use planning, ordinances, acquisitions/buy outs of hazardous areas, elevation of homes and businesses, drainage and retention for flooding, updating building codes, hardening infrastructure, and many more.

2019 Hazard Mitigation Action Plan

The Current San Patricio County Hazard Mitigation Action Plan was officially adopted in September of 2019. This current plan will expire in 2024. All of the cities within San Patricio County, with the exception of Aransas Pass have also adopted this plan. Aransas Pass straddles the county line with Aransas County, and they have adopted the Aransas County plan. This plan is kept current by taking a collaborative approach involving planning meetings with local jurisdictions and the public. A copy of this plan can be requested by emailing eoc@sanpatriciocountytx.gov
